Dartmouth Academy GCSE Results Day 2022

25th August 2022

Dartmouth Academy are proud to share the excellent achievements of our Year 11 GCSE cohort of 2022.

This cohort of pupils have taken full external examinations for the first time since 2019. Staff, pupils and families have worked together throughout this period, including with the significant upheaval of COVID-19 related challenges, and their results are testament to their resilience and determination.

Pupils will be progressing to a variety of post-16 courses and placements, including the sixth form centres at Kingsbridge Community College and Brixham College, South Devon and Exeter Colleges, Plymouth College of Art, as well as prestigious apprenticeships.

Notably high attainment and progress for GCSEs is recognised for the following pupils: Tilly Coffin, Alisha Breeze, Erin Sharples, Suzy Gibson, Jack Rendle, Jack Kendrick, Sam Johnston, Jazmin Robshaw, Lara Bissett, Lucy Tozer, Emily Bone and Niall Creamer.

Emily Simpson-Horne, Headteacher, said: “We are delighted to celebrate these well-deserved outcomes with our pupils. This cohort have continued to follow in their predecessors’ footsteps, persevering despite the challenges of the last two years under COVID-19, and they have modelled what it means to be a ‘scholar’.

Every young person in this cohort deserves to be rightfully proud of their achievements, as well as the legacy they leave for future year groups.

Thanks also goes to the staff at Dartmouth Academy whose dedication and commitment to helping every pupil achieve their best continues to be inspiring, as well as the help and support of parents and carers.

We wish them the very best as they progress to their post-16 courses”.

NB: As you may be aware, the government have been working to bring grades back into line with the 2019 national GCSE results after two years of Teacher Assessed Grades. The government has stated that summer 2022 will be a transition year to reflect that we are in a pandemic recovery period. There will be more generous grading of exams this year compared to a normal exam year. In 2023 results will return to be in line with those in pre-pandemic years.

What does this mean for summer 2022? As we move back to pre-pandemic standards, nationally, overall results will be lower than in 2021 when teacher-assessed grades were used but higher than in 2019 when external exams were last held. The approach exam boards take to grading will reflect a midpoint between summer 2019 and 2021. The government has stated that very few schools or colleges, if any, will get higher results than in 2021.
